Office of Financial Aid

Welcome to the office of Financial Aid at the Electrical Training Center. It is our goal to make the financial aid process as simple as possible. Traditionally, the financial aid process is put on the shoulders of the student and their family. Here at the Electrical Training Center we offer a one on one approach, not only to assist with completing the FAFSA but to also get to know our students and their loved ones.

To set up your one on one interview contact the Electrical Training Center at (631)226-8021 ext.18.

If you would like to get a head start, see the process below. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Kallie or Sal in the Financial Aid Department at the number above during the following times: Monday & Thursday 9am-5pm

                                  Tuesday & Wednesday 11am-7pm

                                  Friday 8am-3pm

Where to begin?

-Electronic FAFSA: https://fafsa.ed.gov/  (Highly Recommended)

- Paper FAFSA: https://fafsa.ed.gov/options.htm (Takes longer to process)

Filling out the FAFSA

Items you may want to have handy when completing FAFSA on your own or during a one on one interview: 1. 2015 tax returns (Student and Parent if Applicable)

                          2. W-2’s

                          3. Social Security Card

                          4. License

                          5. Permanent Resident Card (Other proof of citizenship or eligible noncitizenship)

  • Go to https://fafsa.ed.gov/ (This application if ALWAYS FREE! If it is asking you for a payment, double check the website you are using.)
  • The student must create their own FSA ID linked to their personal email address.
  • A parent must create a FSA ID linked to their personal email address if, according to the picture below, the student is dependent.

  • Once the FSA IDs are created the student must log in with their FSA ID.
  • Choose the award year that you plan on attending school.
  • Click Start FAFSA
  • Enter Student Demographics
  • School Selection
  • Input school code G42238 (You can add up to 10 schools in this list)
  • On Campus housing is not available at the Electrical Training Center
  • Enter Parent Demographics (Only needs to be completed if student is a dependent)
  • Keep in mind whether you are completing the FAFSA as parent one or parent two.
  • Financial Information (Parents and Students will follow the same steps)
  • The following questions need to be answered correctly to see if you can link to the IRS webpage to import tax information.
    • Did you file your taxes for 2015?
    • What was your filing status?
    • Did you file an amended tax return?
    • Did you file a Puerto Rican tax return?
  • If you answered “No” to the last two questions then you will be prompted to log in with your FSA ID (If you are the parent) or you will simply click the “Link to IRS” button.
  • The next page will let you know that you are leaving the FAFSA website and going to the IRS website and you will click “Proceed to IRS”.
  • Make sure all of the prefilled information is correct for 2015.
  • Fill in your address exactly how it shows on 2015 tax return.
  • Click submit and if everything is correct you should see your tax return and you will be able to click the “Transfer into FAFSA” button.
  • If you are the parent, proceed with financial questions until you reach the student financial section.
  • Student will then complete the same tasks as the parent to fill in their financial information.
  • Sign And Submit
  • Once all questions are completed the student will agree to the terms and “sign”.
  • If applicable, the parent will do the same and verify if they are parent one or two.
  • Once both agree you can “Submit FAFSA Now”

***Keep in mind that the FAFSA determines an estimate for Pell Grants, if you qualify, and Direct Loans. The estimate given may differ from what the Electrical Training Center can offer based on the length of the program.***
